Is It Flip to Say, A Tree a Day Keeps the Ecologist Away?

It’s better to be sarcastic than suggest the Coordinator sounds like his attitude has gone negative. After all, he can’t explain to the Director how a jammed piece of paper relieves the planet, at least temporarily. Running, the Machine passes a hundred fifty-plus sheets a minute. In training, techs more sarcastic than me called it “The Deforester,” as if there’s something wrong with that. Less forest used to mean more pasture. Today, less forest tree harvest for more paper pulp. A new-age consumer, the Machine competes with wildlife forced to migrate from disappearing forest land into suburbia. Back when, farmers completed the circle of life, leaving young trees to grow, harvesting mature ones. Was that a crime? Is it flip to say a tree a day keeps the ecologist away? Now that the Machine’s down, the ecology movement might endorse its existence.
