Elevator Lag

. . . As usual, I take the elevator. Whenever I think and ride at the same time, I succumb to elevator lag, a rare condition that’s rarely talked about. At its worst, I feel at home while working; it feels like I’m at work when homing. Feeling lost sometimes, I can’t decide where to go next. On a bad day, I’ve gotten off on the wrong floor, amusing fellow elevator travelers. I know the rules. If you know you’re wrong, get right back on; pretend you have something more important to do on another floor. If you don’t realize you’re lost right away, act like you know where you’re going. No one laughs that way. If you look like you know what you’re doing when you don’t, you’ll supposedly make a great director. . .
